UM Rector Yonghua Song visited the various RCs to dine and talk with the students in order to learn about their transition into their life at UM. He encouraged the students to work hard in the years ahead. In Choi Kai Yau College, Rector Song chatted with Chen Guoqi, a second-year student from Congjiang county, Guizhou province, who studies in the Faculty of Science and Technology. Rector Song encouraged Chen to work hard so that he can contribute to China and his hometown after graduation.

This year, the RCs have come up with creative ideas to welcome their new members. For instance, Chao Kuang Piu College groups its students into several ‘planet tribes’ for extracurricular activities and accommodation arrangements. Lui Che Woo College organised exciting games such as Escape Room and hula loop games. The other colleges, namely Cheng Yu Tung College, Cheong Kun Lun College, Choi Kai Yau College, Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College, Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College, Moon Chun Memorial College, Shiu Pong College, and Stanley Ho East Asia College, also organised fun activities such as campus orienteering, talent shows, lawn fairs, water balloon fights, tug of war, and welcome parties.
